Since 1915 the AAUP has been promoting sound academic practices and working for those practices to be accepted by the higher education community, as well as by national and state legislators.
The mission of the AAUP is to advance academic freedom and shared governance; define professional values and standards; promote the economic security of those who teach and conduct research in higher education; organize to make our goals a reality; and ensure higher education’s contribution to the common good.
The New York State Conference promotes the activities and values of the AAUP on the state and campus level. The Conference is able to to assist members and chapters in the areas of recruitment, tenure, academic freedom, governance, leadership training, lobbying, legal referrals, and the economic welfare of the profession. If there is a specific need or topic you would like help with, please let us know.
The NYS Conference also publishes its newsletter, New York Academe, three times a year; and has two Conference meetings a year, one in the spring and one in the fall, alternating downstate and upstate sites (currently meetings and conferences are being held virtually due to Covid).
Please check out the various tabs and resources on our website. Any questions can be referred to NYSC AAUP Executive Director Sally Dear-Healey @ sdearhealeyaaup@gmail.com.
