The New York State Nurses Association, at its annual conference, has voted to  fight for the right of public employees in New York State to strike. As one nurse put it, going into collective bargaining without that right is like going “to a gunfight with a knife.” Nurses at public hospitals in New York City went for six years without a contract. New York City teachers and SUNY faculty and staff have faced similar situations.
