NYSC AAUP Executive Director Sally Dear-Healey was invited to speak at the “Mental Health & Higher Education Summit,” sponsored by the Mental Health Association in New York State (MHANYS), and held on October 14th at Siena College.
Other speakers included a number of state dignitaries, including Deborah J. Glick, NYS Assembly Higher Education Chair; Dr. Ann Marie T. Sullivan, Commissioner, NYS Office of Mental Health; and William Murphy, Deputy Commissioner, State Education Department; as well as Susan Nesbitt-Perez, Senior VP For Education Policy: The Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities; and others; along with guest speakers from The Center for Psychiatric Rehabilitation.
While the overall emphasis of the other speakers was on students, Dr. Dear-Healey spoke about the mental health crisis facing faculty and staff.
